Titanium alloy has excellent characteristics such as light weight, corrosion resistance and formability, and has a sense of luxury and creativity, and is used in mufflers. In terms of automobiles, because the muffler is hidden in an invisible place, and its high-end sense and creativity cannot be emphasized, the exhaust temperature is higher than that of a locomotive. Under the problems of high-temperature oxidation resistance and high-temperature strength , Titanium alloys are limited to be used in special mufflers. In response to similar situations, in order to avoid substantial damage to the formability of titanium alloys, some companies have developed Ti-1.5Al that improves high-temperature oxidation resistance and high-temperature strength. Titanium was developed based on the engine and catalyst conversion, etc., and the exhaust temperature was increased from the previous height to 700~750°C, so it was used in the muffler of the car. In 2009, ASTM standards were registered, and patents were obtained from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, and France.

As far as the car is concerned, the part after the center pipe has a lower temperature, but depending on the type of car, even the exhaust temperature of this part can reach 700~800 ℃. When titanium metal is exposed to such high temperature for a long time, according to oxygen diffusion and intrusion, the edge part of the surface will become fragile due to the formation of a hardened layer. At the same time, a peeling oxidation ratio occurs, and the metal titanium part reacts, which will reduce its strength. In addition, reduction in fatigue strength and embrittlement occur due to coarsening of crystal grains. There are places where Ti-1.5Al cannot correspond to its oxidation resistance under such a high-temperature environment. Therefore, if it is possible to develop a titanium material that retains the high temperature oxidation resistance of Ti-1.5Al and above, and maintains the strength characteristics of Ti-1.5Al in the forming and processing of the combined parts of the muffler system, it will be the best sound attenuation device material.
Ti-0.5A1-0.45Si-0.2Nb titanium alloy is considered more promising. Compared with the existing muffler materials and JIS 2 types of pure titanium and Ti-1.5Al, this titanium alloy has better high temperature oxidation resistance. These existing materials cannot be used due to problems such as embrittlement. Consider using it for high temperature environmental possibilities. At the same time, the high temperature strength is close to that of Ti-1.5Al. Compared with JIS 2 kinds of pure titanium, at 400 ℃, the yield strength is 3~4 times that of pure titanium, and the tensile strength is 2~3 times that of pure titanium. Therefore, this titanium alloy has the same characteristics of suitable high temperature strength as Ti-1.5Al. Furthermore, this alloy can be expected to have the same level of formability as JIS 2 types of pure titanium.
